A new sound for Euractiv

A couple of weeks ago, publisher René Moerland asked me to work on Today In The Eu, the daily podcast of of Euractive. Euractiv is an independent pan-European media network specialised in EU affairs. As I approached my fifth year of working on De Standaard podcasts, bringing some expertise in sound and flow to these Mediahuis collegues was something I was excited to do.

After analysing the needs of the talented podcast team, I provided them with a brand new, custom made sound pack for creating more immersive podcast episodes in 2025. The exisiting tunes got a revamp and plenty of beds, fillers, splitters, plings and plongs were created. Anything that matches the vibe of a news podcast.

We also focussed on smooth audio transitions and effects, sound quality for studio recordings and those in the field and better mixing and sonorisation of the episodes. It’s so much fun to see the excitement in the team as together we levelled up the strong journalistic work they do on the daily into more profound, consistent and polished podcast episodes.

On the most challenging recordings we embraced the different AI tools at our availibility. This type of advanved vocal processing is getting really good and can save some recordings that would previously be labelled failed or unusuable.

Feel free to have a listen to the first episode out there that fully embraces this new sound pack.

Special thanks to the collegues from NRC Netherlands for referring to me and WAJOO for the realisation of this project. Learn more about Euractiv using this link, listen to the podcast on Spotify and Apple Podcasts.
